New Filmmakers to host Iranian ‘Smile of the Mask’

Iranian short flick ‘Smile of the Mask’ has been selected to compete at the 12th edition of the New Filmmakers Los Angeles (NFMLA) festival in the US.

Directed by Abbas Ghazali, the short film deals with the issue of acid attacks.

“This was not my dream,” a tagline of the short reads.

Ghazali’s short flick was filmed last year in Turkey and participated in several international festivals, including the 6th Bremen Film Festival in Germany, the 2021 Brazil International Monthly Film Festival, and the 2021 Couch Film Festival in Canada.

Zahra Karimi is the actress and the producer of the film.

The NFMLA showcases the innovative works of emerging filmmakers from around the world. The festival provides the movie goers with monthly screenings, includes open audience discussions and connects industry professionals.

The upcoming edition of the event will be held in October 2021.
